Katy Perry has been spending some quality time with her parents, and most recently gave fans an exclusive look into her teenage years via her Instagram Stories. Not only did we catch a glimpse of some old school Katy Hudson merch, but the pop star also found a letter from 1996 explaining why she was suspended from school for three days.
The letter, from California's Santa Barbara Christian School, explained that Katy was ultimately suspended for "inappropriate behavior" with a tree, which she was pretending was Tom Cruise. The letter also called Katy out for her crop tops, playing Spin the Bottle and Truth or Dare, and doing the Macarena dance.
Katy had her mother, Mary, read the letter aloud. The note said, "At the 2:00 p.m. recess, Katy and four other students were in an 'off-limits' area practicing a skit. Katy pretended that a tree was Tom Cruise and began to make sexual motions ('pelvic thrusts') to the tree."
Her mom continued, "When Katy met with Mrs. Caulkins, Mr. White and myself, she was asked to described or demonstrate what she had been seen doing on the playground in front of some other students. Katy chose to describe it. Her words were 'it was inappropriate' and 'like making out.'"
The letter continued to explain that the tree incident followed other behavior from Katy deemed inappropriate by the school. Katy's mom read, "This suspension comes after several incidents and a clear warning in previous conference. On October 17th she was called into my office to discuss her use of inappropriate language and calling third graders 'brats,' and using the Lord's name in vain, saying 'Oh My God.' She had also admitted to being previously involved in playing 'Spin The Bottle' and 'Truth or Dare,' which resulted in students kissing on the cheek. Then she was told that more inappropriate behavior would result in a suspension."
But, the letter didn't end there. Mary continued to read more of Katy's "inappropriate" behavior, which involved the world famous Macarena dance ... you know, like the one popular at Sweet 16s and weddings. The letter said, "Katy was seen by two teachers, recently, outside their classrooms doing the Macarena dance, in which she made body motions with sexual overtones described by one teacher as 'being like an exotic dancer.' Katy as been cited twice for wearing crop tops with her bare mid-drift showing."
Apparently, Katy was just trying to be like Britney Spears, because after the mid-drift part of the letter, Perry explained, "Yeah, Britney Spears!"
