Cardi B is firing back after she and her soon-to-be ex-husband Offset were sued for allegedly dodging payment for the mansion where they shot her recent "Like What" music video.
According to a report TMZ published on Tuesday, September 17, the owner of the property claimed the former couple lied about their plans to use the mansion. In court documents, the owner said Bardi and 'Set knew they would have to pay up if they wanted to film a music video at the home like Justin Bieber and others have done in the past. However, the plaintiff claimed a rep said an anonymous client only wanted to film a TikTok video there.
The owner claimed they approved the request and let them use the home for free based on the provided information. However, the plaintiff said they wouldn't have waived the fee if they knew who was really filming at the mansion. After the music video racked up over 27 million views in the past six months, the owner is suing for damages amounting to $35,000.
Cardi B called cap on the claims hours after the lawsuit was filed. In a lengthy post she uploaded to X formerly known as Twitter on Tuesday night, September 17, the Bronx native shot back at the owner of the property, who was allegedly present at the time of the video shoot, and claimed they are trying to finesse them. She included a series of receipts that show text messages with the original asking price of $10,000 plus a $500 cleaning fee.
"We paid those people $10,000 IN CASH to rent the property for a whole 24 hours that same day 6am to 6am the next morning and we went over by ONE hour which we paid overage fees to the realtor for in March," she explained. "There was cameras all over and both the realtors and the owners was there the ENTIRE time… I got pics and videos of them on set!!"
"Now they wanna finesse us trying to say we told them it was a TikTok video when that was nowhere in the contract and like they didn't hear the whole song playing and see how long we was shooting," she continued. "Why would it take us 24 hours to shoot a TikTok? The problem is people wanna find loopholes and get over but IRON YOUR BEST SUIT B***H I’ll see you in court!!!!"
The "Like What" music video was one of two music videos Cardi B dropped this year ahead of her long-awaited sophomore album. Despite her recent legal troubles, her divorce from Offset and her newborn baby daughter, Cardi previously said she still plans to release her upcoming album in 2024.
