Phillies Hand Rays Second Straight Loss

The Philadelphia Phillies (21-15) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (16-20) 7-0 on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Field.

The Phillies got through to Shane Baz (3-2, 4.93) for a single run in the third before breaking through with five runs in the fourth. They added a run in the sixth to make it 7-0, which would prove to be the final score.

The Rays offense couldn't get to Philadelphia starter Christopher Sanchez (4-1, 2.89). Sanches pitched six innings of shutout baseball in which he allowed just one hit while striking out five and walking three. Taijuan Walker earned a long save with three innings of one-hit baseball in which he struck out seven and walked one.

The Rays will now try to avoid being swept when they meet the Phillies in the finale coming up on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled 7:05 PM Thursday - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
