The Cleveland Guardians (71-70) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (71-71) 3-2 on Saturday night to beat the Rays for the second straight night at Steinbrenner Field.
Cleveland got two in the fourth from a two-run double from Daniel Schneemann. Josh Lowe hit a solo homer in fifth, before Yandy Diaz reached on an infield hit in the sixth that allowed Tristan Gray to score and tie the game. With runners on second and third and two outs in the top of the ninth, Steven Kwan hit a RBI single to give the Guardians the 3-2 lead which would prove to be the final score.
Shane Baz got the start and fallowed two runs - both of them earned - on five hits in five innings of work. He struck out eight and walked one. Pete Fairbanks (4-5, 3.21) took the loss after allowing Kwan's game-winning hit in the top of the ninth.
The Rays will look to bounce back and salvage a split in the four-game series when they meet in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch Sunday is scheduled for 12:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 11:30 AM on AM 620 WDAE.
