FLORIDA - Florida's average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline increased to $3.11 this week, rising above the national average of $3.05 per gallon.
According to CBS News, Florida's northern regions, particularly the Big Bend area and the western Panhandle, offer the most affordable rates, with Okaloosa County reporting prices as low as $2.70 per gallon.
However, South Florida is currently experiencing higher fuel costs.
Palm Beach and Monroe counties, including the Florida Keys, have average prices of $3.28 per gallon, while Miami-Dade County sees rates around $3.16.
The average diesel price in Florida remains steady at $3.49 per gallon, unchanged from the previous week but 51 cents lower than the same period last year.
Historically, Florida's highest recorded average prices were $4.89 for regular unleaded on June 13, 2022, and $5.73 for diesel on June 14, 2022.
The uptick aligns with national trends, where the average price per gallon has risen to $3.05, up from $3.04 last week.
Factors contributing to the recent rise include fluctuations in crude oil prices and seasonal demand variations.
Industry analysts suggest that while short-term increases are possible, long-term projections indicate a potential decline in oil prices due to anticipated supply surpluses
