Miami, FL - A federal judge in Miami has sentenced former ESPN Radio sportscaster Jeffrey Thurn to 46 months in prison for his role in a multimillion-dollar ticket reselling fraud scheme.
Thurn, 39, was also ordered to pay over $5 million in restitution to his victims and will serve an additional three years on probation.
Thurn, originally from South Dakota, pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges stemming from his involvement in a fraudulent business known as Backstage Tickets.
Prosecutors revealed that Thurn provided an investor in South Florida with falsified receipts for ticket resales that never actually occurred, convincing the investor to contribute large sums of money under false pretenses.
The FBI’s investigation uncovered the extensive scheme, which exploited trust and involved fake documentation to maintain the illusion of legitimate ticket sales.
Thurn’s fraudulent activities spanned a significant period, ultimately resulting in substantial financial losses for his victims.
Senior U.S. District Judge Federico A. Moreno handed down the sentence on Tuesday, emphasizing the severity of the crime and the damage caused to investors.
