Boynton Beach Police are sharing more information on a deadly officer-involved shooting on Saturday.

Officials say officers responded to a report of a dispute between a father and his adult son at Intracoastal Park when they came upon the son who was armed with a machete.

Police say the officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, giving verbal commands to the man to drop the weapon. But the man alleged ignored the orders and shouted at the cops to shoot him before charging at them with the machete.

That's when the officers fired at the man, striking him. They then began life-saving measures and fire rescue took him to Delray Medical Center where he later died.

All four of the officers involved were unharmed and are on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.

The father of the man, whose name has not been released, told officers that his son dealt with mental issues and possible drug abuse.

The FDLE is investigating.
