Monroe County, FL - A man was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after allegedly being bitten by a shark while visiting Everglades National Park,

According to officials, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the emergency around 40001 State Road in the park’s remote Flamingo area, located in Monroe County.

First responders quickly located the injured man and transported him by air to Jackson South Medical Center in South Miami.

His current condition has not been publicly released, but officials confirmed he was alert and conscious at the time of transport.

Footage from the scene showed the victim seated upright on a gurney with a large bandage wrapped around his hand.

Authorities have not confirmed what type of shark was involved or the events leading up to the incident.

The National Park Service has yet to comment, and it remains unclear whether the man was engaging in recreational fishing or other activities at the time.

The attack is under investigation, and wildlife officials are expected to review safety measures in the area as a precaution.

While shark bites in the Everglades are rare, this incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of Florida’s wild ecosystems.

Park visitors are urged to follow all safety guidelines and exercise caution around waterways where marine life may be present.
