(Miami, FL) - Tropical Storm Melissa has formed in the Caribbean and could affect Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Cuba and Jamaica.

The National Hurricane Center has already issued a Hurricane Watch for the southern peninsula of Haiti from the border with the Dominican Republic to Port-Au-Prince. The government of Jamaica has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the island.

Currently, Melissa is about 300-miles south of Port Au Prince, Haiti with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. It's moving west at 14 mph.

The National Hurricane Center's Robert Garcia says it's way too soon to know if Melissa will impact Florida citing a myriad of steering factors.

Garcia says the system serves as a reminder that hurricane season continues through November so don't rule out a storm in the final months.
